While doing some research for a client, I found a new author to add to my favourites list. Bev Aisbett! I don't know how I haven't discovered her before!
Bev's Living with IT: A Survivors Guide to Panic Attacks is a goodie to have in your self-help toolbox if you or someone you know suffers from panic attacks or anxiety disorder.
This book is so easy to read – in fact, there are almost more pictures than words in this 157-page gem. I love Bev's use of humour, and the illustrations are really fun!
Bev has used her own lived experience with anxiety disorder to develop the character IT, which became the central character in the books:
Bev has also written Taming the Black Dog: A Guide to Depression and co-authored Get Real, a book dealing with body image and eating disorders. In 2010 Bev produced two additional books in the field of personal development; I Love Me and Get Over It, and finally, her personal story of living with anxiety in All of IT: A memoir of Love, Fear and Art.
Bev is a trained counsellor and has run recovery programmes for sufferers of anxiety since 1998. She gives regular public talks and professional development seminars on learning to cope with panic attacks and helping people with depression.
If you search for Bev Aisbett in your local Library search engine, you'll find many of her books available for hire free of charge, and in a range of formats. I like the ebooks, they're free to download and I can read them on my desktop PC or iPad.
Till next time
Julie
